Mar de Cambios, or Sea Change Schools in English, is a part of JASS’ global Movement-Building initiative that seeks to regionally build the capacity of civil society organizations in Mesoamerica to undertake political actions and strengthen feminist movements.
Mar de Cambios responds to the demand that emerged from our Mesoamerica Movement-Building Institute, held in Panama in 2006 and builds on the programs and expertise of the JASS community in popular education, power analysis, advocacy, and organizing. Women activists and feminists from across the region expressed the need for structured processes of capacity-building, action-reflection, personal renewal and knowledge-generation. Feminist Leadership School
VIRTUAL DEBATES SERIES TAKES OFF
Mar de Cambios feminist leadership school launched its new virtual debates series in 2010 with a lively and informative discussion about Feminism and The Left. The topic was chosen in response to the current discussions on whether there is a feminism of the right. Renowned human rights expert Dr. Alda Facio facilitated the debate and more than 40 women activists from across the region took part. The full report of this first debate is now available in Spanish!

July 2009
To this end, in July 2009 JASS/ Mesoamerica, in partnership with the Petateras, IFUN, CEASPA and Alas de Mariposa, convened the first Mar de Cambios Feminist LeadershipSchool in Panama. For five days, 45 women hailing from every country in the region analyzed power dynamics in society, as well as in women’s movements. The participants also created a wall of ancestors in homage to female ancestors who have given them strength and helped them understand the many dimensions of oppression. Read More (in Spanish) |
